How Much Do Custom Printed Color Boxes Cost? 8 Cost Drivers
Short answer: No single price fits every color box. It is set by eight things: box size, board grade, flute, print method and colors, finishes, structure and inserts, order quantity, and packing and freight. If you send those eight points with your request, a factory can give you a firm quote quickly instead of a vague range. At BOYA Printing, MOQ is typically 500–1000 pcs depending on the product. Color boxes are typically ready 7–15 days after sample approval, depending on specs.
1. Size — What moves the price: Sheet usage: how many boxes fit on one press sheet. What to send us: Inner L×W×H in mm.
2. Board — What moves the price: Liner paper and board grade. What to send us: Product weight, retail or shipping use.
3. Flute — What moves the price: Thicker flutes use more material and are stronger. What to send us: Stacking load, shipping route.
4. Printing — What moves the price: Number of colors, spot colors, coverage. What to send us: Artwork or a reference photo.
5. Finishes — What moves the price: Lamination, spot UV, foil, embossing. What to send us: Which finishes are essential.
6. Structure & inserts — What moves the price: Die-lines, hand-holes, windows, kit inserts. What to send us: Product photos, parts list.
7. Quantity — What moves the price: Setup (plates, dies, make-ready) is spread over the run. What to send us: Quantity per design, number of SKUs.
8. Packing & delivery — What moves the price: Cartons per pallet, delivery address. What to send us: FOB port or China factory address.

1. Box size and sheet layout
Color boxes are printed on large sheets and then die-cut. The fewer boxes that fit on a sheet, the more you pay per box. A small change in size can let one more box fit on a sheet and lower the unit price. That's why we ask for inner dimensions and suggest layout tweaks before we quote.
2. Board and liner
A color box combines an offset-printed paper facing with corrugated board. Heavier liners and board grades cost more, but they also protect heavier products like tools, faucets and fittings. We choose the board from your product's weight and how it ships, not from a default.
3. Flute grade
Flute is the wavy middle layer of corrugated board. Thinner flutes give a crisper print surface and a more retail look. Thicker flutes add stacking strength. The right flute balances shelf appeal against transit protection, and we confirm it on a sample.
4. Printing method and colors
Litho-laminated color boxes are printed on offset presses. More colors or spot (Pantone) colors add plates and make-ready time. Full-coverage designs use more ink than mostly-white designs. We print on KBA Rapida, Heidelberg and Roland presses, and BOYA is a ONE (formerly GMI) certified print facility for offset printing (process and spot colors). That matters when many SKUs have to match on the shelf.

5. Finishes
Matte or gloss lamination, spot UV, hot or cold foil and embossing each add a process step. Ask yourself which finishes actually sell the product. One well-placed foil logo often does more than a whole list of effects.
6. Structure and inserts
Hand-holes, windows, auto-lock bottoms and kit inserts need their own cutting dies and sometimes extra gluing. Inserts that hold every screw and bracket in place add cost but cut returns. Send product photos and a parts list, and we will propose the simplest structure that works.
7. Quantity and number of SKUs
Plates, cutting dies and make-ready are fixed costs that get spread over the run. That's why the unit price drops as quantity rises. If you have several SKUs that share one structure, we can often gang them on the same dies to lower setup costs.
8. Packing and delivery
Boxes ship flat in master cartons on pallets. The quote changes depending on whether you need FOB at a Chinese port or delivery straight to your assembly factory in China. Tell us the destination up front.
