Color boxes that survive heavy products and long export routes: that is what a hardware or tool brand needs from a packaging supplier in China. BOYA Printing is a Zhongshan packaging factory in Xiaolan, in the heart of China's hardware and home-furnishing manufacturing belt, making printed color boxes and corrugated color cartons since 2003 for brands and importers that ship to North America, Europe and Japan. If you are looking for a hardware packaging manufacturer in China, the three things below are the ones to check before you place an order.

What color boxes are best for heavy hardware products shipped to North America?

For heavy tools, fasteners, fittings and other hardware, the best choice is usually a heavy-duty printed carton: a corrugated color box that carries retail-quality print on the outside and has the board strength to survive a long export route. Here is what to ask your supplier.

1. Board strength — and how it is tested

Heavy products push on every panel of the box. Before you order, ask:

  • Which board grade and flute does the supplier recommend for your product weight and stacking height?

  • Is burst and board-compression testing done in-house, or does it depend on an outside lab?

At BOYA we run burst and board-compression tests in-house. These are our own factory checks, not a third-party certification, so if your retailer needs a specific transit-test protocol, tell us at the RFQ stage and we will plan around it.

2. Large-format printing for big boxes

Tool packaging color boxes for drills, saws or tool kits are often large. Ask how big a sheet the supplier can print in one pass, because that affects how many boxes fit per sheet and whether a large panel needs a join.

Our KBA Rapida 142-5+L is a 5-colour full-sheet press, so large box blanks can be printed in one pass. Smaller boxes run on the KBA Rapida 105-6+L, which also adds a coating unit for in-line coating. For colour consistency across reorders, we are GMI / ONE certified for offset printing.

3. Waterproof coatings for long routes

Sea freight, humid warehouses and outdoor garden centres all expose cartons to moisture. Ask whether the supplier can add a water-resistant layer and how it affects print and recyclability.

We support waterproof coatings. Tell us the route and storage conditions, and we will recommend a coating to go with your board and print.

Before you send an RFQ

Have these ready: product size and weight, units per box, how cartons will be stacked and shipped, artwork, quantity per design, and the delivery address. If your products are assembled in China, we can deliver the boxes directly to your assembly plant.
