Visiting a Packaging Factory in Zhongshan: What to Check on the Floor

You are welcome to book a factory visit. A video factory visit is also available if you cannot travel. On the floor, check press nameplates, certificate copies against public registers, how samples become the bulk standard, how QC is recorded, and who will give you order status after you leave.
Book an on-site visit or a video factory visit by appointment
Read press nameplates; ask which finishes are done in-house vs with partners
Verify ISO, FSC and ONE (formerly GMI) against the certificate numbers you are shown
Walk the sample path: written spec → sample → written approval → mass production
Ask who gives status updates, and how fast
MOQ from 500 pcs, depending on product and process; lead time depending on specs
This guide is a buyer checklist for what to verify during a packaging-plant visit in Zhongshan — not a sales brochure. For company facts you can verify without a trip, see About BOYA Printing. For product fit on hardware and tools programmes, see hardware and tools packaging.
1. Short answer: book the visit, then work a checklist
Before you fly or join a video call, ask for a timed agenda: which workshops you will see, who walks with you, and whether photography is allowed. At BOYA Printing you are welcome to book a factory visit; a video factory visit is available when an on-site trip is not practical.
On the day, spend time on five things that change order risk: equipment you can see, certificates you can verify, the sample-to-bulk path, how QC is done, and who owns status after you leave.
2. Identity and plant: confirm you are in the right place
Start at the gate and the reception board. Match the legal name, address and contact channel to what you already have in writing.
Zhongshan Boya Color Printing Co., Ltd. (BOYA Printing on byprintings.com) is a packaging printer founded on 21 March 2003 in Xiaolan Town, Zhongshan, Guangdong. The plant is about 20,000 m² with 128 employees (2026). Address: No. 1-1, Maofeng 1st Road, North District, Xiaolan Town, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province 528415, China. English channel: denny@byprintings.com or +86 189 2812 5102 (phone / WhatsApp).
If the address, headcount or phone channel on the wall does not match your written file, reconcile before you discuss a programme.
3. Presses and lines: read the nameplates
Ask to see the offset presses and read the nameplates yourself. BOYA runs four presses: KBA Rapida 105-6+L, KBA Rapida 142-5+L, Heidelberg CD102 (5-colour) and Roland 900 4-colour 1.6 m. Do not accept a vague “we have Heidelberg / KBA” without the model on the plate.
Beyond the presses, ask what the plant is equipped with for your box style — for example a forming line for book-style boxes, litho-laminated (flute) capability, and rigid-box capacity. BOYA is equipped with a forming line and with 5 Hongming automatic rigid-box machines; book-style boxes are in scope. Ask which surface-finishing steps are done in-house and which run with partners — do not assume every finish is on-site.
For a fuller equipment view after the visit, see equipment.
4. Certificates: copy numbers, then verify outside the plant
Ask for current certificate copies and write down the numbers. Typical checks on a Zhongshan packaging visit:
ISO 9001:2015 — certificate 02424Q32051972R2M
FSC Chain of Custody — FSC-C157096 (confirm at search.fsc.org; step-by-step: how to verify an FSC certificate)
ONE (formerly GMI) — status per PQM; we describe it as ONE (formerly GMI) certified and do not extend it to other colour systems
A frame on the wall is not verification. Take the number, check the public register the same day, and match the legal name and site to the plant you walked.
5. Sample path and QC: how the bulk order is locked
Ask them to walk the path from artwork to approved sample to mass production — who signs, what is written down, and what happens if bulk differs from the signed sample. Specs follow the written confirmation. Sampling is available; timing and cost are confirmed per project.
On QC, ask what is checked in-house and what sits under the ISO 9001:2015 system. A factory tour does not replace a signed sample on your SKU.
For the order steps from artwork through delivery in writing, see custom packaging order process.
6. Who gives status — and how goods leave
Before you leave, name the person who will answer status questions after the visit. At BOYA, order status is given by your sales contact. Ask how delivery will run for your programme: to your customer’s assembly plant in China, FOB, DDP or overseas — terms are confirmed per project.
Also ask whether the plant runs a one-stop chain as scope (design → quote → sample → produce → QC → ship → after-sales). Design is available as scope — packaging graphic, logo, business card and structural packaging design — not as the main offer. Colour printing and handmade / rigid boxes remain the core work.
7. Practical booking notes
MOQ: MOQ from 500 pcs, depending on product and process.
Lead time: lead time depending on specs; confirm on the quotation for your SKU.
Visit format: on-site factory visit or video factory visit, both by appointment.
Contact: Contact us — denny@byprintings.com / +86 189 2812 5102.
Bring dielines or product dimensions, target market, board preference and any certificate needs (for example FSC-labelled material) so the walk ties to a real RFQ.
